You know how we church folk like quoting scripture some of which we do not even know where to find when given the good book? Well that was me (still is when it comes to some quotes) I know sometimes you too say it’s written but can’t really say where… don’t beat yourself up you’re in good company (but from now we’ll read the word more, right?)
Well, there’s
this one verse everyone uses and for the longest time I did too but didn’t know where it was written. You should have seen me shouting my lungs out
how no weapon fashioned against me shall prosper (we
Africans prefer the fancy words like ‘fashioned’ and not ‘formed’ I don’t know
who lied to us God doesn’t like simple language)
Many moons later I decide to check where that verse was extracted from and let me tell you Maina… the things I read blew my head away. Isaiah 54.17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgement You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
I had lived all
this time holding a shield and never knew I could wield a spear? It’s there in
the text. Saying 'no weapon formed' is more of a defensive tactic, when do we
attack if that’s the only phrase we know? No battle has ever been won by always
defending. You sometimes have to charge forward, no? And no matter how good you
are at defending at some point you’ll give in to the attacker. And that is how
some weapons have ended up prospering.
What’s our
attack word you ask? Condemning those tongues that tell us what we can or can’t
do. You tell them you can do all thigs through Christ. If
they tell you your idea is hard to implement or your diagnosis has no cure or
you can’t do anything, don’t just let it slide. Shut them up. Those are some of
the weapons we let get to us because we’ve only learnt to defend and not fight
back.
It closes by
saying that this is our heritage. An heritage according to my dictionary is an
allotted portion or an inheritance. We only activate this allotment when we put it to use! (One day I’ll tell you about the prodigal son’s brother)
Let us from
today rise and fight back. Cancel all those negative words and thoughts both external and internal. You have
the IT in you.
