I was supposed to be minding my own but business has been low this season and therefore I could afford a second to snoop a conversation between Maya and her friend Dorcie. I knew Dorcie (she and I are friends) but Maya... we have bad blood 😂 They were friends and we happened to find ourselves in the same setting and me being the man of few words that i am, I didn’t take that long catching up with my friend Dorcie before she went to her friend.
These women skipped the pleasantries and dived straight to the tea
and let me tell you Maina, those women can gossip 🙉
They went on and on and on I couldn’t follow with
their conversation, but somewhere along the lines they mentioned JJ. I didn’t
know him but his story caught my attention. Apparently JJ had broken off with
his long term fiancée and for some reason Maya was happy about it. ‘She didn’t deserve
him 😏’ she sneered. (no wonder I hate her)
Now, let me give you the context, Maya had just parted ways
with her man a few months back and kept saying how everyone was against her and
turned her man against her. The same was the case with JJ and his fiancée according
to this tea.
I had somehow hoped that having had a similar experience, she
would perhaps show some empathy and probably even call out JJ for letting other
people interfere and have a say in his relationship. I had hoped she would probably stand by the fiancée since she knew what it felt like, but she didn’t 😞 I was surprised she
couldn’t see the similitude 😬
A perfect example of seeing a speck in another’s eye
oblivious of the log in our own. She expected people to show her mercy but was unwilling to extend the same even when their cases were similar? No wonder Jesus gave just one commandment of
love. Had Maya (a staunch Christian by the way) followed the teachings she so faithfully professed, then
she would have felt for JJ’s fiancée. She, of all people, knew best what it felt like. She was the best person to stand by her and perhaps speak some sense to JJ but no, she wasn't hesitant to cast the proverbial first stone...
Can we? Can we start seeing other people with the lens of love? That we judge less and love more? Can we choose to just love people regardless? That yes you messed up, but don’t we all? Can we start seeing people beyond what they did or didn't do? Can we start feeling for them as we would others felt for us?
Wouldn’t the world be a better place then?
It starts with me, it starts with you. Let us get started, shall we?
