This Is It?

I support this club loved and hated in equal measure. Football is a religion to its fans and rightly so.

The club’s recent performance has been atrocious to say the least and the fans have been baying for the coach’s head. He will face the sack that’s for sure because that’s what everyone wants and in business, optics are everything.

As I was busy tweeting how he needs to go and was celebrating the memes of his imminent departure, I came across a post I made a few years back when the man was hired. We were all happy, talked about how this man was finally the solution we always wanted, how he would lead us to victory and restore our lost glory. The fans who go for the live matches had a chant of how the man was at the wheel. They sang it so proudly. We rubbed it on everyone’s faces. Good old times… I’m nostalgic 😢

Now you’ll notice a trend here, the very people who praised this man and would die for him are the same ones asking for blood. What changed? Nothing. It is the innate nature of humans to only go with that which benefits us. Everyone has a price. It is just a matter of time and chance before your so called friends throw you under the bus.

Am I saying we do not trust people? No. We cannot live without each other. So what do we do? I think we should learn to live and relate with people carefully. We ought to examine when relationships have outlived their usefulness then abandon ship. Sometimes we meet people meant to stay with us during certain stages of life after which it is only advisable to severe ties. Sometimes it can be subtle like gradually reducing interactions to the minimum or totally cutting them off, either way they have to come to an end.

It is important to learn when to leave. So evaluate all your relationships and see those that are long term and those that are short term, those that need to end, should have ended, need to stay, about to end…. You get the drift.

Put each person in their place and then you will see the peace that comes with it. You will not have unnecessary disappointments from people you expected much from while in real sense they were just passers-by.

Ps, I wanted to use Khabi Lame's image but I feared some would not get the reference so I will hide it here at the bottom 😂
