‘Heaven and earth’ was
this book from high school whose title was more significant than the story itself in my opinion. The title referred to what we think things will be as opposed to the reality of how they end up being.
This title helped me view things in a more realistic
view unlike how I previously romanticize them. I for instance, know that
relationships are not all rosy, life is not a constant feel good hyper party and such a like. These realities are
the ‘earth’ the author was referring
to.
We get to jobs, relationships, houses, church ministry and
all these spaces with a certain expectation in our head only to be hit by the
reality that they are occupied by people with different tastes,
preferences and ideologies from us. If we do not tame the ‘heaven’ in our heads, we end up getting disappointed, loathing or even
quitting these spaces.
I am not saying that these spaces should not live up to
their expected standards, they should, but we, too, ought to be realistic with our
expectations of them.
Heaven and earth should always ring our minds whenever we
are about to experience a new reality.
