Sowing

I started writing about sowing. This post was supposed to be a poem but apparently, I am not good at that. I am more a prose than poetry person, writing with the hope that amid the multitude of words, the reader would derive meaning. What then about sowing did I want to write?

The period of sowing. This period needs faith. Lots and lots of faith. You see, farmers do not wait for the rains to sow. It precedes the rain. They sow in the dry season and then wait for the rains.  It takes courage to do that, especially in these days of climate change. What if the rains delay? What if the rains never come? A million what ifs but then every season, without fail, they will till the land and sow their seed.

Why all this sowing talk? Well, the year is still young and a lot of people use this time to make major life decisions. Some of these have lifelong repercussions and or consequences. The first days of these decisions do not seem like it. It feels more like sowing- tilling a dry ground, sowing precious seeds, and hoping it is worth the effort. Never in the history of starts has it ever felt like it would amount to anything.

In the Bible, we can get a picture of this with the parable of the mustard seed. According to Jesus, this was the smallest and held the least promise of amounting to much but once sown it grows to be the largest tree in the forest. So whatever it is that you want to start, go right ahead. It may feel like you're not making progress but the truth is that you are. Do not relent, therefore, because eventually, it will take shape and you will be grateful you never gave up.

Go, sower! The world cannot wait to eat off your mustard tree.
